A fire has damaged Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub in Victoria, B.C.

The popular Victoria watering hole started brewing its own beer in the 1980s and is the oldest in-house brew pub in Canada.

The Victoria Fire Department said crews were on the scene fighting a fire Wednesday in the roof of the building in Victoria's Vic West neighbourhood. There were no reports of injuries.

"The guys worked hard today," said batallion chief Bob Jones. "We saved the building, so we are happy about that. It was looking a little scary there for a bit."

In a statement on social media, Spinnakers thanked firefighters for containing the blaze.

"No injuries to patrons or staff. We thank everyone for the messages of concern and well wishes," the statement said.

"A sad day for us. Please be patient as restaurant hours will be affected, while we work to restore the damage."
