Stanley Cup rioters sentenced for attacking Good Samaritan

Two Stanley Cup rioters were sentenced to spend several months in jail for beating up a Good Samaritan outside the Hudson's Bay store in downtown Vancouver.

Nathan Blake, 24, was convicted of participating in a riot and assault, and sentenced to eight months in jail for the attack on Robert MacKay. Robert Timleck, 24, was sentenced to 9½ months for participating in a riot and the attack on MacKay.

MacKay was called a hero and honoured by the department store after he was identified on video trying to hold back a crowd attempting to break into The Bay during the 2011 Stanley Cup riot.

Video posted on the internet showed a number of people swarming him, kicking and punching him, pushing him to the ground and dousing him with bear spray.

Last September, police said 15 people were charged in the assault on MacKay.
