East Vancouver woman searching for rightful owners of stolen photos

When Oshy Parasol's home in Vancouver's Strathcona neighbourhood was broken into, she didn't expect the thieves to leave someone else's photos behind.

"Luckily the VPD were able to catch the guy. They returned all our belongings, fortunately. However during the encounter, some other belongings were left behind that didn't belong to us," she said.

Parasol says she was so compelled by photo albums the robbers forgot, she's now searching East Vancouver for the rightful owners.

She said she thinks the photos may been previously stolen from someone else's home — perhaps even from the same area.

The two photo albums were filled with colourful, glossy pictures — memories of a man who appears to be travelling the world with his friend.

Page after page, the photos from the 1990's show the man blowing out birthday candles, with another man's family, and even giving a salute to the camera.

"These are not just memories that you can buy in a store. If you've had a break-in you know there are some things you can buy and some that you can't," she said.

Parasol has been putting up posters throughout her neighbourhood.

So far, no one has contacted her with tips, but she says she still has hope, and will put the posters up in other neighbourhoods in Vancouver in her quest to find the owners.

This isn't the first time Parasol was robbed; her car has been broken into twice. But she says her neighbourhood is all about community and helping each other out.

"During our incident we did have a neighbour help and that was part of the reasons why it was a successful story — the person was caught and we had our stuff returned," she said.

"We just want to continue looking out for each other."
