House fire in Surrey leaves one dead, one in hospital
Police say cause of fire not suspicious
A man is dead and a woman is in hospital with serious injuries after an early morning fire in Surrey.
First responders were called to the house in the 9000-block of 148 Street, just before 1:00 a.m. PT Wednesday.
They arrived to find a 55-year-old man suffering from burns, who died at the scene.
A middle-aged woman was also found suffering from smoke inhalation. She was taken to hospital in serious condition.
Cause of fire not suspicious
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and Surrey RCMP's Serious Crimes section was leading the investigation early Wednesday morning. But police later released a statement deeming the event "non-suspicious."
"Anytime there's a death involving a fire, the Serious Crimes section will take over until they can make a determination as to what the cause would be," said Staff Sgt. Dave Macdonald.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact Surrey RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
