Suspect in Nanaimo machete attack charged with aggravated assault

Police in Nanaimo, B.C., have charged a man in connection with a machete attack on July 1 that left a local businessman fighting for his life.

Police in Nanaimo, B.C., have charged a man in connection with a machete attack on July 1 that left a local businessman fighting for his life.

Jesse Goodale, 26, of Nanaimo is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault and attempted murder.

Police arrested Goodale in the 600 block of Fifth Street.

He has a lengthy criminal record, including robbery and theft. 

The victim of the attack, Rickie Sugars, is currently in hospital with life-threatening head injuries. Nanaimo police say he is in serious but stable condition.

Police confirmed that the two men knew each other, and the attack was not random.
