Thefts of catalytic converters probed by B.C. RCMP
Toyota trucks, SUVs targeted
Mounties in Maple Ridge, B.C., are investigating a rash of catalytic converter thefts from residents' cars.
Police say nine catalytic converter thefts occurred between Jan. 17 and 20.
It appears the thieves are targeting Toyota pickup trucks and 4Runner SUVs, but one Nissan pickup was also targeted.
The vehicles range in model years from 1989 to 2001 and all are four-wheel drive cars, making for easier access to the undercarriage area where catalytic converters are located.
Catalytic converters can fetch anywhere from several hundred to several thousand dollars because they contain precious metals like platinum, palladium and rhodium.
