A pedestrian who was hit by a car on Wednesday night has died of his injuries, say Vancouver police.

At about 8:45 p.m. a 51-year-old man was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of SE Marine Drive and Ross Street.

The man was taken to hospital but later died of his injuries.

Police had the entire road closed for about an hour, before reopening some lanes to traffic.

A grey car with a substantial dent in the driver's side front panel could be seen inside the closed-off area .

The driver is cooperating with the investigation, according to police.

Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors leading to the accident.

This is Vancouver ninth traffic-related fatality this year, said police, seven of which have been pedestrians.
