Vancouver Police launch summer drunk driving counter attack
Officers will be actively looking for impaired drivers at road checks all summer
Vancouver Police officers were out in force as they launched their summer counter attack program late Friday night.
Officers will be actively looking for impaired drivers at random road checks all throughout summer.
"We've had busy evening… we've done a number of checks tonight," said Sgt. Brian Turcla at a road check on the Granville Street Bridge.
"We just want to make sure that people make the right choices, and that is if you are going to go out and consume liquour ... don't get behind the wheel and drive, because you don't want to put yourself or any other members of the public at risk by doing so."
Some indicators officers look out for when targeting impaired drivers include the smell of fresh cologne or perfume, chewing gum, or freshly-lit cigarettes.
The VPD are reminding those who do consume liquor, to take transit or plan ahead with a designated driver.
