Victoria loo voted best in Canada

Victoria mayor Dean Fortin says he's "flushed with pride" after a public toilet near the city's Bastion Square was voted the best place to "go" in all of Canada when it comes to the call of nature.

Victoria mayor Dean Fortin says he's "flushed with pride" after a public toilet near the city's Bastion Square was voted the best place to "go" in all of Canada when it comes to the call of nature.

The potty called the Langley Street Loo, featuring a stainless steel design, unisex toilet and exterior hand washing station, won the top spot in a poll conducted by Cintas Canada, a company that provides restroom supplies and other services.

"The Langley Street Loo is part of a larger strategy that ensures our downtown is vibrant and safe – day and night," said Victoria Mayor, Dean Fortin, in a statement.

"Access to public amenities, like a 24-hour washroom, are important to our downtown community. It is even better when those amenities are attractive and innovative."

Cintas official Rod Farquharson says the Victoria toilet isn't the most lavish restroom by any measure, but it's accessible, well-maintained, eco-friendly and free.

The Langley Street Loo was purchased from the City of Portland, Oregon, in 2011 for $90,000 and is maintained throughout the day by the City’s sanitation crew.

A bathroom in Vancouver's Georgian Court hotel took fourth place in the annual poll, while two Toronto restrooms came in second and third.
