Victoria man faces impaired driving charges after wrecking Ferrari
Police say the driver crossed the centre line and lost control of the vehicle
A Vancouver Island man in his early 50s is facing impaired driving charges after crashing his Ferrari Thursday night.
It happened just after 7 p.m. PT in the Victoria suburb of Langford, along the 800 block of Bear Mountain Parkway.
Police say the driver crossed the centre line and lost control of the vehicle before it slammed into a guardrail.
"Based on the damage on the Ferrari it was pretty substantial," said Const. Alex Berube of the West Shore RCMP.
"Luckily the driver didn't sustain any injuries. His vehicle was towed and impounded as a result of an immediate roadside prohibition as alcohol was determined to be a factor in the crash."
The driver's licence was also suspended for 90 days.
"Based on the crash and the damage caused to the fence there's some evidence to suggest the driver may have been going faster than speed limit."
The 2002 silver Ferrari 360 Coupe — worth between $80,000 to $100,000 — was a write-off.
"It's very unusual to us," said Dave LaQuesne of Westshore Towing.
"I think this is the second luxury car we've had in of this high end. You don't see a vehicle of this value written off in less than five minutes."
The man's name is not being released.
