VPD issues warning after convicted sex offender moves to Vancouver

The Vancouver Police Department says a convicted sex offender living in a halfway house in Vancouver poses a "risk of significant harm" to the safety of young women.

Cameron Eugene Ratelle, 38, has been convicted of sexual assault against a minor as well as university students living on campuses in Ontario.

The VPD say it was advised Ratelle would be living in a halfway house in Vancouver on May 15.

Since the Correctional Service of Canada has assessed Ratelle as a moderate to high risk for violent and sexual re-offending, VPD says it was prudent to issue a public warning. 

Ratelle's is bound by several conditions, including the following:

• Not to go on the property of any educational institute or schools including university campuses.
• Not to be in the presence of anyone under the age of 18 without permission.
• Follow a curfew from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.
• Not to possess, purchase or consume alcohol or non-prescription drugs.
• Not to possess, purchase or access pornography.
• Not to access any internet site or access any computer.
• Must reside in a community correctional centre or community residential facility.

The VPD asks anyone who sees Ratelle in violation of any of these conditions to call 9-1-1.
