Distracted driving was taken to a whole new level on Vancouver Island this week, after video surfaced online of a woman using a curling iron while driving on a local highway.

The video was posted to YouTube by account holder Ocean Side as a "road safety fail" but police said they weren't able to follow up with the driver because no one got her licence plate.

"This person is oblivious to the risk she's putting on herself and to the risk of everybody else on the road," said Nanaimo RCMP Cpl. Norm Smith.

Police said the unidentified woman was driving at speeds of 90 kilometres an hour on Island Highway, just north of Nanaimo.

"She's driving with her knees, so she's putting herself and everyone else at risk because she's having a bad hair day and she wants to make it look better," said Smith.

If you see a distracted driver, police recommend noting the licence plate and reporting it to authorities.
