It could be a very costly weekend for two young men from Calgary.

RCMP say they caught the pair hitting speeds of up to 200 km/hr during a speed trap set up Sunday afternoon on Highway 1A between Calgary and Cochrane, Alta. The posted speed limit on the stretch of road is half that amount.

The 21- and 26-year-old men are now facing racing and speeding charges and will make a mandatory court appearance on March 27 in Cochrane provincial court.

The RCMP officers say they heard the sound of racing motors before seeing two 2013 Scions coming toward them at extremely high rates of speed.

This is the second time in a week that a driver has been caught speeding excessively.

A 17-year-old male was caught driving 182 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone on a road north of Airdrie, Alta. He will also be making a mandatory court appearance.
