Calgary entertainment: 5 things to do this weekend
Have a night out at the theatre or get a selfie with Santa
It's another busy week for arts and entertainment in Calgary. The CBC's Susan Holzman lists her festive picks.

1) Alberta Ballet's Nutcracker
Alberta Ballet presents the well-loved classic, featuring lavish sets and costumes and 80 students who complement the company's dancers on stage. While the show is on tour, the children are picked from the community where it's being performed. The production runs from Dec. 17-24 at the Jubilee Auditorium. Tickets start at $29 and are available through albertaballet.com.
2) Free skate with Santa
Skate with Santa is on at Olympic Plaza (11 a.m. to 3 p.m) on Saturday, Dec.19. Bring your own equipment or borrow skates and helmets on site. For those who may need a little help, Wild Rose Skating Club will be on hand to give skating tips and entertain with a few skating performances. The event is free and open to people of all ages.
3) Get a selfie with Santa
If you haven't quite finished your Christmas shopping or, like me, you haven't even started, there's a way to combine the things you need to get done with some festive cheer: Christmas in Kensington is on from noon to 4 p.m. this weekend. Enjoy free hot chocolate or coffee at the tent in front of the Plaza, go on a horse-drawn wagon ride, listen to some rock 'n' roll carolers, visit the petting zoo and get a selfie with Santa!
4) A night at the theatre
A Christmas Carol continues its run at Theatre Calgary. After a successful holiday show last year, Forte Musical Theatre Guild presents its Naughty but Nice show again this year. For those who went last year, it will be a different show this year. Naughty but Nice runs until Dec. 20 at Lunchbox Theatre. For tickets go to lunchboxtheatre.com
5) Put on your dancing shoes
Delhi 2 Dublin are playing this weekend at the fifth annual winter solstice. The show is being performed at Civic on 3rd, which is in Chinatown on Third Avenue and First Street S.E.. It's a stunning venue with plenty of room to dance.
