In their Holiday Hotspots ranking, released Friday, The Guardian ranks Alberta in ninth place on their list of the top 40 destinations for 2014. The province beat out perennial favourites and exotic locales such as Bordeaux, Moscow, Abu Dhabi and Budapest for its spot in the top 10.
According to the ranking, the opening of Jasper National Park's Glacier Skyway is expected to entice more visitors to Alberta, while world-class skiing at Lake Louise will continue to be a huge attraction.
Calgary's increasingly diverse and exciting city life was also highlighted as a draw.
The newspaper says the city "has gone from cowboy town to cosmopolitan cool," a fact residents know all too well.
Earlier this year, Calgary was ranked as Canada's best large city and best overall city by MoneySense Magazine.
In 2012, the city also ranked as the fifth most livable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
