Bad weather may have been a factor in a highway collision that killed a 16-year-old girl and sent three other people to hospital.

RCMP say three people were in a southbound vehicle and a lone driver was in a northbound vehicle when they collided Friday night near Beiseker, Alta.

Mounties say that heavy hail and rain was occurring at the time.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene while a 67-year-old woman was flown by air ambulance to a Calgary hospital with critical, potentially life-threatening injuries.

The STARS helicopter could not land at the scene due to the inclement weather and an alternative landing zone had to be set up.

A 43-year-old woman was taken to Calgary by ground ambulance and was reported to be in serious but non-life-threatening condition.

The 58-year-old female driver of the northbound SUV was taken to local hospital in non-life-threatening condition.
