The body of a 22-year-old Alberta man has been pulled from the Elbow River.

Police were called to the area at about 12:00 p.m. MT after getting reports that a man was in distress in the river and yelling for help.

Rescue crews spent two hours scouring the area before spotting the man's body about five kilometres downstream from the point where he was last seen.

Police say the man was not wearing a flotation device.

Officials say the Elbow River is flowing at a very fast rate due to the recent rain and spring runoff.

A high-water warning was issued for the Elbow and Bow rivers on Friday, with officials advising people to stay away from the waterways.

The victim has been identified as a 22-year-old Alberta man. His name has not been released.
