Bow and Elbow river warnings in effect this weekend

Calgary's Fire department says there is still a high stream flow advisory in effect for the Bow and Elbow Rivers.

Rivers high and fast right now, and there's a lot of flood debris, says fire department

Calgary's Fire department says there is still a high stream flow advisory in effect for the Bow and Elbow Rivers.

Deputy fire Chief Ken Uzeloc says there is also an overall safety advisory for all the debris left behind by the flood and says the rivers are still high and fast.

“Both the police service and fire department have responded to a number of calls of people on the water including two individuals who are still missing. There are lots of other ways to enjoy the warm weather and waterways. We have numerous lakes and parks throughout the city that are much safer and better suited for enjoying waters.”

Uzeloc says people who plan on going on the rivers should plan ahead.

“Scout the area on the river that you want to use ahead of time from the shores to make sure it's safe. Assess whether you have the skills, the safety equipment and the right type of craft to be on the river.”

The fire department has a video on its website showing all the debris left by the flood.

It was filmed in the spring before the water got so high.
