15-year-old was expected to face murder charge after teen stabbed to death in northeast Calgary
Address in 5500 block of Maddock Drive N.E. was scene of fatal drug-related altercation last year
Update added Nov. 22, 2017: Although authorities originally arrested a 15-year-old boy and cautioned him for murder, they later released him without charges. A 16-year-old was charged days later with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Leslie Sun Walk.
Charges are expected to be laid against a 15-year-old Calgary boy in the stabbing of another teen that led to his death in the northeast community of Marlborough Park on Wednesday.
The address is the same location where a man was killed in May 2016.
Police were called at about 5 a.m. Wednesday to the 5500 block of Maddock Drive N.E.
The victim, who has been identified as Leslie Sunwalk, was taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.
There is usually a publication ban under the Youth Criminal Justice Act that prevents the naming of victims under the age of 18, but Calgary police confirmed to CBC that Sunwalk's dad has given permission for his son's name to be published.
An autopsy was completed on Wednesday.
A suspect was arrested at the scene and CBC has learned that a second-degree murder charge is pending.
The suspect and victim were known to each other, police said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
Police also said that they are not prepared to lay charges at this time and that the investigation is ongoing.
On May 15, 2016, at the same address, Tyler Sanderson, 24, was killed in what police said at the time appeared to be a drug deal that turned violent.
An autopsy is planned for Wednesday on the victim.
