A Calgary bus driver was robbed by an 11-year-old boy wielding a knife, as part of a group of three youths, police said Wednesday.

"At approximately 11:45 p.m., on Tuesday, a bus driver parked at the Erlton Station was approached by a youth who revealed a knife and demanded the driver's phone," police said in a release.

The boy left with an undisclosed amount of money, joining two other youths, aged 12 and 14.

All three were located near the intersection of 25th Avenue S.W. and Macleod Trail and taken into custody.

Police believe the trio may have been involved in a liquor store robbery, just prior to the bus incident, in the 500 block of 11th Avenue S.W.

The 11-year-old boy who allegedly robbed the bus driver was released to a parent, police said. The Criminal Code doesn't allow for criminal charges against a person under the age of 12.

A 14-year-old girl is facing shoplifting and other charges, and charges are pending against a 16-year-old girl.
