A man on a bike has died after he was hit by a woman driving a delivery truck in the city's northeast.

Police said a man in his 50s was biking north on 11 Street N.E. and tried to cross 53 Avenue in the west crosswalk.

According to police, a woman in her 30s driving a delivery truck north on 11 Street then made a left turn onto 53 Avenue, hitting the cyclist. The man had to be freed from underneath the truck before he could be taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. He later died from his injuries.

At this point in the investigation, police say excessive speed, drugs and alcohol aren't considered factors in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing and police are looking for witnesses. Anyone who may have seen the crash, or what happened beforehand, should contact the Calgary Police Traffic Section, Crime Stoppers or the Calgary Police non-emergency line.
