Trio charged with killing two men in 2019 drive-by shooting
Jasdeep Singh, 25, of Calgary, and Japneet Malhi, 22, of Airdrie were killed in April 2019
Calgary police have laid first-degree murder charges against three people accused of carrying out the 2019 drive-by shooting deaths of two young men.
Jasdeep Singh, 25, and Japneet Malhi, 22, were fatally shot in April 2019 in a vehicle in the city's northeast.
Amandeep Saggu, 30, Prabhjyot Bhatti, 22, and Jaskaran Sidhy, 21, each face two charges of first-degree murder and one count of reckless discharge of a firearm.
In the early morning hours of April 3, 2019, following reports of a shooting, police responded to the 2400 block of 37th Avenue N.E.
They found Malhi and Singh in a vehicle, both suffering gunshot wounds. One died at the scene, the other in hospital.
Police say they believe the victims were targeted by the perpetrators, who waited for them for over an hour.
When the pair showed up, the culprits are believed to have driven by, firing multiple rounds into the victims' vehicle.
"Over the last two years, we have worked to piece together an investigation in which two young people lost their lives in such a calculated manner," said homicide unit Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm in a statement released Wednesday.
"Three people will now be held to account due to the diligent work of many areas of the service, throughout this investigation."
The three will appear in court on Thursday.
