Calgary Economic Development announced location of $22.8M project Monday

Calgary Economic Development has secured the land it needs for a film studio.

The $22 million studio, which will be called Calgary Film Centre, is set to be constructed at 57 Street and 76 Avenue S.E., the company wrote in a release Monday afternoon.

The centre is set to open in fall 2015. The organization has chosen a project manager and an architectural firm.

The site is set to be 8.53 acres with 50,000 square feet of sound stages. The main tenant and operator of the sound stage will be William F. White International.

For decades the lack of modern facilities has forced major film and TV projects to rent warehouses in southern Alberta to shoot interior scenes.

The Calgary Film Centre is slated to be built in the southeast near Glenmore Trail and Stoney Trail. (Google Maps)
