2 people dead following southwest Calgary house fire
Fire crews responded to a house fire in southwest Calgary on Sunday evening
One woman and one man are dead following a house fire in the community of Southwood.
At around 5 p.m. on Sunday, the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a structure fire in the 700 block of Seymour Avenue S.W.
Fire crews initiated an interior fire attack and were able to control the fire. Upon entering the home, one adult man was removed from the back of the home, and one adult woman was removed from the front of the home, according to a CFD news release sent late Sunday.
Crews performed CPR and the man was taken into Alberta Health Services' care and transported to hospital, while "the female patient succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene," reads the release.
Police told CBC News on Monday morning that the man later died in hospital.
The fire department says no other injuries were reported.
CFD says fire crews and the Calgary police remained at the scene overnight Sunday to investigate the cause of the fire and confirm that it remained extinguished throughout the evening.
As of Monday morning, the cause of the fire has been deemed not suspicious by police.
