A Calgary judge says Dustin Paxton must undergo a 60-day psychiatric evaluation to help determine if he meets the criteria to be designated a dangerous offender.
Paxton was convicted earlier this year of aggravated assault and sexual assault after his roommate was dropped off at a Regina hospital badly beaten and emaciated in April 2010.
He also has a criminal history that includes 41 convictions — seven of them for violent offences.
Paxton will be back in court in September.
