Calgary man charged with 2nd-degree murder in Ogden homicide

Police say Bearj Gerald Melanson, 41, is accused of killing 31-year-old Maria Hirmiz. The relationship between the two is unclear; however, investigators say Hirmiz's death has been deemed a domestic-related homicide.

A Calgary man has been charged with second-degree murder in what police describe as a domestic-related homicide that happened last week in the southeast community of Ogden.

Investigators say they were called to a home in the 7600 block of 23rd Street S.E. at around 9 p.m. Friday for reports of a disturbance.

Officers say that when they arrived, they found a woman dead.

She has been identified as Maria Hirmiz, 31.

Officers searched the home on Monday, arresting Bearj Gerald Melanson, 41. He is charged with one count of second-degree murder and will next appear in court on Thursday.
