A Thursday evening stabbing in downtown Calgary has left a man in life-threatening condition, police said.

Calgary police said the stabbing, along with a robbery, occurred at around 8:40 p.m. near the Calgary Drop-In Centre.

Two suspects are in custody and have each been charged with aggravated assault and robbery. One suspect was also charged with failure to comply with an undertaking, and the other with failing to comply with a probation order.

Police said one suspect had initially been thought to be the victim of a second stabbing which had been reported nearby, but that person in fact suffered his injuries days earlier.

During the investigation, police said pedestrian traffic had been restricted around Riverfront Avenue and Dermot Baldwin Way.
