Members of the Calgary Police Service's homicide unit are investigating the circumstances that led to a man's death in the city's Rundle area early Sunday morning.

Police responded to reports of an assault in the 100 block of Rundleson Way N.E., in northeast Calgary, shortly after midnight, police say.

First responders found a man who was severely injured, but "despite live-saving efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene," police said in a news release issued Sunday.

An autopsy will be scheduled for next week, police say.

If the incident is later determined to be a homicide, it will mark Calgary's 22nd homicide this year.

Anyone with information is asked to call Calgary police at 403-266-1234, or submit information anonymously to Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-8477.
