Calgary police say a young girl has died after being hit by a vehicle in a northeast alley behind her home on Monday night.

Calgary police say a young girl has died after being hit by a vehicle in a northeast alley behind her home.

Police said the child was approximately two years old.

She was in the alley behind her home in the northeast community of Taradale shortly before 7 p.m. when she was hit, according to police.

"She has now died from her injuries," police said.

The driver remained at the scene and is being cooperative, police said.

Police said alcohol has been ruled out as a cause of the incident, but it remains under investigation.
