Calgary security guard dies, woman charged after confrontation over package thefts
Police allege guard was trying to intervene when pushed, hitting his head
A Calgary woman has been charged with manslaughter after a security guard died trying to stop her from allegedly stealing packages in an office lobby.
Police say security camera footage shows the confrontation, which occurred almost three weeks ago on March 13.
They say the footage shows the guard trying to stop the woman from taking the packages, but she pushed him and caused him to fall backward and hit his head on the ground.
As he lay there, the footage shows the woman making her way to a nearby office, where it's believed she stole a laptop and other items, police say.
The guard, identified as 73-year-old George Fernandez, was found in serious condition by staff arriving for work around 8 a.m.
He died in hospital a day later.
Amanda Robyn Ahenakew, 45, has been charged with manslaughter in relation to the death.
She is scheduled to appear in court on April 16.
