White Christmas in the cards for Calgary after Environment Canada snow warning

Environment Canada has issued a snow warning for Calgary and much of southern Alberta as a Pacific low pressure system is expected to dump up to 40 centimetres of snow in some areas by the middle of the week.

15 to 25 centimetres expected in the city by Wednesday

It looks like Calgary will definitely see a white Christmas this year.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the city, saying a cold front is expected to drop 15 to 25 centimetres of snow from Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday evening.

A low pressure system is expected to move in from the Pacific coast on Tuesday morning.

Meteorologists say southwestern Alberta will see the most snow, with 25 to 40 centimetres possible in Canmore, Kananaskis, Pincher Creek, Cardston, Crowsnest Pass, Fort Macleod and Waterton Lakes National Park.

The agency said the cold spell will bring an end to the unseasonably warm weather southern Alberta has been experiencing recently.

Calgary has seen very little snow so far, with highs averaging between 5 and 15 C.
