Canyon Meadow School students got a chance to sing with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield for Music Monday.

Elementary students at Canyon Meadows School in southwest Calgary took part in a unique sing-along Monday as they joined Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield at the International Space Station to celebrate Music Monday.

The day recognizes music programs in schools.

"Music is good for the soul," said Kathy Sorensen, who led the students. "It certainly stimulates other parts of the brain to increase their learning in other areas."

Hadfield told the students that music is a great human adventure.

"I thought it was really neat because I've never really sang a song with a person in space before," said participant Katherine Featherstone.

Students, musicians and other participants across Canada and as far away as Singapore and Australia also joined in.

They sang along with Hadfield to ISS — Is Somebody Singing?, the song Hadfield co-wrote with Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies.

The concert is Hadfield's final live link from the space station before he returns to Earth May 13.
