A baby giraffe born at the Calgary Zoo on Thursday makes her public debut

Although she stands more than six feet tall, a tiny giraffe made her debut this weekend at the Calgary Zoo.

The baby girl was born on Thursday to parents Carrie, 22, and her much younger sire, Nabo, aged 5.

The female calf had been bonding in the back with her mom since birth, but decided to come out into the public area on Sunday.

Daddy's little girl?

"Over the course of the weekend they got very brave and decided to venture out from the back area," said zoo spokesperson Trish Exton-Parder.

She said the mom and calf are doing really well, but it seems the little one is daddy's little girl.

"Nabo the dad has been very close, not in with them at the moment, but being able to look over the enclosure and has been loving his daughter, and licking her and cleaning her and you can tell that is going to be a wonderful family when we get them all together."
