Expanded cancer centre in High River opens
Satellite site of Calgary's Tom Baker centre now 6 times larger
The cancer centre in High River is now six times bigger with the completion of a major renovation.
The High River Community Cancer Clinic is now 2,400 square feet and has more comfortable and welcoming treatment areas for its clients, Alberta Health Services said in a release.
The centre has been operating since 1998 as a satellite clinic of Calgary's Tom Baker Cancer Centre, providing about 160 treatments per month, including chemotherapy, transfusions and blood level monitoring.
The Rotary Club of High River raised $1.6 million to renovate and expand the existing facility earlier this year.
"Today is a celebration of the generosity of our communities. It is a celebration of people who truly want to make a difference in people's lives. We are so grateful to the Rotary Club of High River and all the many, many individuals, businesses and service clubs who were part of making today's opening a reality," said Michael Brown, executive director of the High River District Health Foundation.
The new clinic has six treatment chairs, a designated exam room, a nutrition centre and private space for physician consultations with patients and families.
High River is about 65 kilometres south of Calgary.
