Car2Go is back online Tuesday morning after a service disruption halted the fleet during rush hour the day before.

A spokesman for the short-term car rental service said the problem affected operations across North America on Monday afternoon.

Edward Apt had no luck when he tried to get one of the blue and white Smart cars to drive himself home from downtown.

"It said it was trying to check me in and then it timed out and wouldn't open the doors."

The company apologized for the problem on Monday.

"We truly appreciate your patience and your ongoing support," car2go said in a release.

The company, owned by German car manufacturer Daimler, operates about 300 vehicles in Calgary.
