Murder charge laid in parkade shooting at Eau Claire Market
Police say homicide was targeted and related to drug trafficking
A 26-year-old man faces second-degree murder and other charges after a fatal shooting at a downtown Calgary market Friday.
Police arrived at the Eau Claire Market parkade Friday around 8 p.m. to find a deceased man.
"On Saturday, a suspect was arrested in Calgary, and a residence in the Airdrie community of Hillcrest was subsequently searched on Sunday in connection with the investigation," Calgary police said in a release Monday.
Police believe the Friday shooting was targeted and related to drug trafficking. The victim will be identified after a Monday autopsy.
Abdullahi Barakobe has been charged with second-degree murder and kidnapping using a firearm and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
Police continue to look for a white Mercedes-Benz car, possibly a C400 class, that may be connected to the incident, along with two male suspects.
The first suspect is described as a shorter man in his 20s with black hair, light-brown skin tone, a medium build and seen wearing a white hoodie, while the second man is Black, tall with a slim build and also wearing a hoodie.
