Cochrane RCMP are investigating after a 20-year-old man from Calgary died at a worksite at the RancheView School in Cochrane.

The man died at approximately 8:50 a.m. on the site, according to RCMP.

Andrea Linkert, a spokesperson with Rocky View Schools, said the division was unable to provide additional detail while the investigation was underway to protect privacy.

"Rocky View Schools is saddened to confirm that a contractor working on one of our sites has passed away following an accident today," Linkert wrote in an email. "Our sincere condolences go out to family and friends affected by this tragedy."

Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety is now investigating.

Linkert said members of the Rocky View Schools crisis response team were on site to provide support, adding that the school division would fully co-operate with the investigation.

Cochrane RCMP Const. Jennifer Brewer said no further information would be released about the nature of the incident, but did say that no kids were on site at the time.

"It's a professional development day," Brewer said. "I don't know if any teachers were there, but there were no kids."

RCMP said no further details will be released unless the death is deemed criminal in nature.
