You're invited to CBC Calgary's 60th birthday!
Celebrate six decades of your local CBC and Radio-Canada at our open house on October 19.
60 years in your community
On Sept. 30, 1964 at 11:59:40 p.m., CBC Radio started 24-hours-a-day broadcasting in Calgary. Twenty seconds later, on Oct. 1, it began its first full day of regular broadcasting, launching a new service for listeners in southern Alberta.
Lots has changed over the past six decades: our station headquarters moved locations; we said farewell to beloved hosts and welcomed new fan favourites; stories became available through more platforms, like the CBC News App, TikTok and YouTube.
But one thing has stayed the same since that first day of broadcasting. CBC Calgary and Radio-Canada have remained dedicated to local and regional communities, providing engaging and relevant content.
So while it might be our birthday, this milestone is really a celebration of you — our community, our audience. Here's to 60 years!
