Dear Diary: How this self-styled homemaker is staying sane and entertaining the kids
Days are all blending together for Gizette Edis. Read how she’s coping with COVID-19
CBC Calgary wants to know how you are living these days. What are you doing differently? Have you learned, realized or observed anything?
In this instalment of our series, Dear Diary: In a Time of COVID-19, we hear from homemaker Gizette Edis of Calgary. This submission has been edited for clarity and length.
I don't know how long we've been quarantined. It just sort of happened.
Some days I feel like my life has changed so much since we started quarantining last month: no going to church, no going to choir rehearsals, no gym and hot showers with unlimited hot water, no family visits, no looking forward to summer trips.
Some days I feel like my life hasn't changed at all: bathrooms still get cleaned every Tuesday, I'm still behind on laundry, I still go through phases where I hate cooking, still amping up to potty-train my almost-two-year-old.
Now that the sun is out, I send the kids out at least once a day. They seem happier out there. Not at each other's throats as much. I know a little bit about when they project this will end, but it's always changing, so I don't pay very close attention.
I try to keep my head down and only pay attention to more reliable sources and important information that actually affects us, such as having to wear masks in certain stores.
I'm not waiting around for it to be over, but I will be grateful when it is .
