Dog attack leaves man in hospital

An elderly man is in hospital after being attacked by two dogs in northeast Calgary.

Gurdeev Gill, a neighbour who witnessed the attack, told CBC News through a translator that two dogs ran into the Tarawood Place cul-de-sac and attacked the man, who was sitting on a chair in his driveway Friday at about 10 a.m.

The unleashed, medium-sized dogs were chased by two women who put them in the back of a dark-coloured van and sped off, she said. She couldn't identify the breed.

Bylaw officers were going door-to-door to gather information on the attack. Spokesman Damian Cole confirmed Gill's account, saying his officers were also hunting for the van.

"According to eyewitnesses, the dogs did the attack and then a van turned up and the dogs were loaded onto a van and they were taken away," he said.

Peter Purba, another resident of the neighbourhood, said he wasn't surprised by the attack because he has seen aggressive, unleashed dogs running around the Taradale neighbourhood before.

An emergency medical services spokesperson said the victim is in hospital, but in good condition.
