Drive-by shooting shocks Calgary suburb

Calgary police are still looking for suspects in a daytime drive-by shooting that erupted as families in the city's southeast community of McKenzie Lake were getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner.

Police say a passenger got out of an SUV at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday and started shooting at two men who were standing in a driveway in the 100-block of Mountain Park Circle Southeast.

One man was shot in his upper body, while the other suffered wounds to his lower body, police said Sunday. Both victims, who are in their early 20s, are expected to survive.

"The gang team has been called in for assistance in this investigation to determine if there were, in fact, gang links to this incident," Duty Insp. Kevan Stuart said.

A group of kids and teens stood behind the yellow police tape that cordoned off the crime scene Sunday evening, staring at a dark red stain at the end of a driveway. Some residents in the southeast suburb were so shaken, they declined to give their names to the media.

"Because it appears to be some sort of gang-related crime. And if they can come and shoot people in broad daylight on Thanksgiving, then you could be the next target," one woman told CBC News. "Come on. There's bullet casings everywhere."

This was Calgary's fifth shooting incident in four days.
