Drumheller prisoner found dead days after fellow inmate's death
Martin Pinku found unresponsive in cell 2 days after Earl William Davenport dies
Officials at the Drumheller Institution east of Calgary are investigating after a second inmate died in the space of one week.
Martin Pinkus, 47, was found unresponsive in his cell in the prison’s medium security unit on Wednesday.
Staff performed CPR and took him to the Drumheller Health Centre where he was pronounced dead, Correctional Service Canada (CSC) said in a release.
Pinkus had been serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder, aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm since 1999.
As in all cases involving an inmate's death, CSC will review the circumstances. Police and the medical examiner will also review the death.
Earl William Davenport, 56, was found dead in his cell at the Drumheller Institution on Monday.
He was convicted in 1987 of first- and second-degree murder in the deaths of his sister-in-law and her friend. He was serving an indeterminate sentence.
