Eagles of Death Metal to tour Canada after return to Paris to complete shows interrupted by attack

The band that was playing at the Bataclan in Paris when suicide bombers stormed the venue and killed 89 people last to November plans to return to the French capital later this month, and then pay a visit to Canada in April and May.

The band that was playing at the Bataclan in Paris when suicide bombers stormed the venue and killed 89 people last November plans to return to the French capital to complete their interrupted tour later this month, and then pay a visit to Canada in April and May.

The Eagles of Death Metal announced they are joining forces with Canadian rock duo Death From Above 1979 for a new, spring tour that was partly inspired by a "Canadian tuxedo."

The slang phrase refers to the the winning combination of a jean jacket and jeans.

That choice of outfit was at the heart of a chance encounter between Death From Above's drummer/singer Sebastien Grainger and EODM's frontman Jesse Hughes — at, of all places, a Los Angeles Best Buy on Christmas Eve — that eventually led to the two bands coming together for the Canadian dates.

"I saw him from across the parking lot wearing a Canadian tuxedo (Google Image search!) and aviator sunglasses," Grainger wrote on Facebook.

"I thought to myself: There's only one other rock-and-roller on earth baddass enough to face a shopping tsunami at a major electronics big-box on Christmas Eve — Jesse from EODM."

In a roundabout series of events, that crossing of paths eventually led the two rock bands to decide on a Canadian tour.

The tour dates and locations include:

  • April 28 — Edmonton, Shaw Conference Centre
  • April 29 — Calgary, Grey Eagle Resort & Casino
  • April 30 — Saskatoon, O'Brians Event Centre
  • May 1 — Winnipeg, Burton Cummings Theatre
  • May 4 — London, Ont., London Music Hall
  • May 5 — Montreal, Virgin Mobile Corona Theatre
  • May 6 — Hamilton, Hamilton Convention Centre
  • May 8 — Quebec City, L'Imperial Bell
