Calgary Easter egg hunt for dogs does not include chocolate

We all know chocolate and puppies don't mix, but now Calgary dog owners have a safe way to celebrate Easter with their fur babies.

We all know chocolate and puppies don't mix, but now Calgary dog owners have a safe way to celebrate Easter with their fur babies.

"Easter is one of those holidays where it's really kind of catered to people, it's rich food which dogs don't do well with," said Holly Montgomery, who is organizing two Easter egg hunts for dogs this weekend in the city's southeast.

Montgomery will be hiding about 40 hollow plastic eggs with freeze-dried lamb tripe.

"It's one of the smelliest treats. The dogs will sniff that stuff out anywhere," said the Calgary dog photographer.

The eggs will contain a ticket, which can be exchanged for some loot at the Tail Blazers Health Food store for pets in Copperfield.

Prizes include dog toys and services from dog groomers, dog walkers and a dog photographer.

The family-friendly event runs March 26 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and March 27 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Cooperfield, just east of McKenzie Towne.
