Some Canmore, Alta., residents caught a rare glimpse of a herd of elk swimming in the Bow River on Monday.
"We were just down going for a walk with my son and my mother-in-law and we were walking towards the river," said Marcia Kinash.
"We were looking down and next thing I know, they were just swimming along."
Kinash said there were about 25 or 30 of the animals.
"It was a big herd for what you normally see," she said.
"This is the first time I've ever seen them swim right up the middle with the current."
