The family of a young woman killed in a car crash by a suspected drunk driver is helping raise money for the other victim's family.

A taxi that 25-year-old Jillian Lavallee was a passenger in was hit early Saturday morning at Macleod Trail and 12th Avenue S.E.

The 46-year-old taxi driver, Amritpal Singh Kharbanda, died at the scene. Lavallee succumbed to her injuries hours later in hospital.

A 20-year-old man is facing charges of impaired driving causing death.

Now Lavallee's family has set up a crowd-funding site to raise money in her memory for the taxi driver's family.

They say Kharbanda supported his wife and two daughters as well as family in his home country of India.

The Lavallee's site says all the money will go to the driver's family and to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD).

So far it has raised more than $17,000.
