A former teacher at W.G. Murdoch School in Crossfield, Alta., is facing 16 charges including sexual assault and sexual exploitation, Alberta RCMP said in a Wednesday release.

Rodney Reisner, a 47-year-old man from Airdrie, Alta., is in custody until a judicial interim release hearing can be held.

RCMP said during the investigation, numerous interviews were conducted and eight people were identified as possible victims.

The school board said it's supporting the school and community.

"We take these charges very seriously and will support W.G. Murdoch High School through this difficult time," Rocky View Schools (RVS) superintendent Greg Luterbach wrote in a release later Wednesday.

Reisner worked at various schools in RVS from 2009 to late 2023, the board wrote.

"We also recognize the emotional impact this situation may have on our dedicated employees, who work tirelessly to enrich the lives of our students."

The board said Reisner was "unassigned and has not been teaching in any RVS school since late 2023."
