Grass fire south of Oyen under control
One farm house destroyed, local state of emergency still in effect
A grass fire south of Oyen, Alta.,is now under control, CBC News has learned.
The province says one farm house and its buildings were destroyed. Fire crews are still at work on hot spots.
The grass fire prompted the evacuation of 15 rural homes.
Late Monday night, the RCMP in Oyen, near the Saskatchewan border, were asked by the fire department to help evacuate rural residences due to the out-of-control grass fire. It was burning about 120 kilometres south of Oyen along the the north bank of the South Saskatchewan River.
No injuries have been reported, and no densely populated areas threatened.
A local state of emergency is still in effect for Special Area No. 2, east and south of Hanna to the Red Deer River.
Oyen is about 300 kilometres east of Calgary.
