Some trails are closed in parts of Banff National Park due to grizzly bear sightings.
Parks Canada announced the closures on Monday, releasing a map showing the impacted areas.
"Multiple grizzly bears are foraging, hunting elk calves and engaging in breeding activities in the area. These natural activities pose a significant risk to the public. Disturbances to them have provoked aggressive responses by the bears," Parks Canada officials said in a press release.
The areas impacted are:
- Vermilion Lakes Road and all three Vermilion lakes on the north side of the Bow River.
- Fenlands Trail and Day Use Area.
- Legacy Trail from the west end of the Vermilion Lakes Road to its connection with the Trans-Canada Highway.
- Echo Creek North of the CPR train tracks.
