The Johnston Canyon trail has been reopened after repair work was done on the popular hiking destination west of Calgary.

The trail in Banff National Park was closed last week after a 12-year-old boy was critically injured by a falling tree.

A tree became dislodged and fell onto a section of trail where the boy was hiking.

The trail has been closed while crews repaired a three-metre section of a railing that was damaged and removed about 30 trees.
